For New Years 1989 I took a trip
Through god-forsaken tank-training grounds called "East Germany"
I had permission to be absent
I traveled with my supervisor and my girlfriend
I recall a fight in a bar at the dawning of the new year
I recall the 'Berlin apartment' I spent a night or two in - there was a baby I think
Was it Pam's brother Mike? Details lost to time ...
We spray painted the Berlin Wall ... initials & a plea for peace
Can't say what we asked caused the future, but January 1989 was the last time I was in West Berlin

25 years on from a 20 year-old's recollection of a time that seems quite dark and foreign now.
